Exposing Atrocity: Representation and Counter-Representation of Feminicide Violence in Mexico, 1994-2021
Aline Hernández is a first-year Art History PhD student at St Andrews University. She gained her MA from Utrecht University in the Netherlands with a specialisation in Gender Studies in 2020. Her PhD project offers an innovative art-historical approach to the study of photojournalism of feminicide violence in contemporary Mexico (1994-2021) through an in-depth evaluation of photographic material and through the analysis of feminist artistic responses to press photographs. The aim is to contribute to a fuller understanding of the politics of representation of feminicide violence and examine the potential of more ethical forms of addressing feminicide violence.
