About Annika’s Research:
Fair Isle situated between Orkney and Shetland makes it the perfect stepping stone for past communities journeying between the two locations, but was it merely a stopping off point or did past societies thrive here? This project takes an interdisciplinary landscape approach combining archaeology, palaeoenvironmental and digital technologies, working with the local community to investigate the cultural, natural and intangible heritages of Fair Isle. The project seeks to highlight the unique identity of Fair Isle within the Northern Isles both historically and currently, whilst strengthening local economies. Project results will inform future NTS conservation management plans for the island.
