SFC Saltire Emerging Researcher project: “It was bad, but it made us money”: Exploring culture, commerce and morality in 21st century book publishing

My SFC Saltire programme consisted of a two and a half month exchange to the University of Münster, Germany. I had made prior connections with the Book Studies department at Münster through various conferences, and I was keen to build on these connections and learn more about the research going on there. The Book Studies team is also currently involved with the German Research Foundation funded ‘Law and Literature’ research centre, examining the ways in which law and literature interact throughout history and in contemporary book culture. Throughout my exchange I developed my own work across publishing studies, literature and law, paying particular attention to how the conflict between commerce and culture was relevant to my work.
