Project title: Women’s Work: Second-Wave Feminist Art and Domestic Labour
Project abstract: This project examines how second-wave feminist artists complicated the politics of domestic labour in their work. While largely overlooked within the history of art, housework became a lightning rod for feminist debate during the 1970s and 80s, inspiring a range of artistic responses. My project addresses this under-researched body of work by analysing an intersectional, transnational selection of artwork that destabilises capitalist definitions of work and care. Through archival research, interviews, and an object-centred approach, my project reveals how artists have engaged different practices and institutional contexts to question how socio-cultural values surrounding work are constructed, reinforced, and challenged.
