About Matthew’s Research

This project focuses on natural archives and the notion of ‘repurposed’ poetics, whereby writing is recycled – both textually and materially – to think more dynamically about relations and responsibilities within environmental crises. Tending to the concept of the ‘poem as fossil’, such research aims to uncover the ecological dimensions and affective politics of what it means to ‘stay with a poem’. It will investigate how contemporary literature from varied US-contexts engage with the temporal and ontological theories generated within Anthropo-scene discourse.
