Hear the Hammers Ring: Shipyard Workers, Literary Culture and Communities on the Clydeside and in Belfast, 1840-1914.

A collaborative, interdisciplinary project with the History and English departments at the University of Strathclyde and the Scottish Maritime Museum. The project aims to uncover the writings of shipyard workers in the long nineteenth century, and consider their engagements with literary and associational cultures, and the way in which they represent issues such as professional identity, migration, religion and culture. I am working with the Scottish Maritime Museum on contextualizing their holdings in relation to project findings and will have the opportunity to develop public engagement activities with the museum.
