About Christie’s Research:
My PhD research investigates curatorial and digital practices that promote linguistic accessibility in online exhibitions, with the hypothesis that they can mitigate some forms of engagement-related inequality and barriers in museums. Contextualised by the surge in online exhibitions in the museum and gallery sector during the Covid-19 pandemic, it examines the experiences and multilingual needs of linguistically minoritised groups in the UK in their engagement with online exhibitions. The research aims are to establish and demonstrate best practices for creating immersive digital exhibition spaces and interfaces, formulating recommendations for museums to enhance linguistic accessibility in online exhibitions, thereby improving audience engagement, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
