About Laura’s Research:
My project involves collaboration between the University of Strathclyde, the University of Glasgow, and the Alasdair Gray Archive. It is the first study of the complete writings of Agnes Owens. I am working with the AGA on creating the Agnes Owens Archive, which contains previously unpublished plays, poems and short stories, and correspondence between Owens and her contemporaries. I am critically analysing this new material alongside her already published works, to create a chronological study of her entire literary output. My research seeks to restore the importance of Owens’s literature of the marginalised, within its West of Scotland setting, to Scottish literary culture, and beyond. As part of this restoration, I will contribute to a variety of public-facing events marking the centenary of her birth in 2026.
