About Pat’s Research:
To discover what seventeenth-century writers in Scotland’s North East had to say about the constitutional upheavals of their time and to what extent their prevailing attitudes differed from those held in other parts of Scotland.
It will highlight regional differences to, e.g. the Union of the Crowns; the Covanants and church governance; the execution of Charles I and the Restoration of the monarchy. By giving a voice to contemporary writers this cross-disciplinary project has potential to broaden critics’ and historians’ perceptions of Scottish attitudes and opinion in the period, and to demonstrate to what extent the perceived differences between Aberdeenshire/Banffshire and Central Scotland are demonstrated in their work.
